Grinding Instances for the Loots

Spent some time today cleaning out Shadowfang keep with a partially (Gladiator) geared 70 Rogue. It was about as easy as you’d think and it was even worth a few gold.

Found some blue items (no purples,) but they were just the usual boss drops. Nothing interesting in the trash.

Arced war axe, Rugged Spaulders, Butcher’s Slicer, Haunting Blade, Girdle of the Blindwatcher, Black Wolf Bracers, Silverlaine’s Family Seal, Bloody Apron, Ferrus Hide. There were a couple of others found, but I didn’t jot them down. All Bind on Pickup and all vendored.

Each run through was good for around 12-15 miscellaneous greens, a couple of potions, a fair amount of wool cloth and a few pieces of others cloths. Not to mention all the stacks of skins, mostly light leather, but some medium and some hide.

Off hand I think those green will be worth more disenchanted into strange dust and whatnot, so that’s probably what I’ll do. I just ship them to my Auction House Alt and that one does the disenchant. By the way, there’s a subtle gold making hint there, and it isn’t the one mentioned.

Not the most productive grinding in terms of gold/hour, but it was kinda fun and earned some gold and the Guildie I took through there was quite happy (he got all the loot.) I was hoping for one of those lev 19 twink items, but it didn’t happen.

I’ll do the same for a few other instances pretty soon.

Also, if you’re 70, if you haven’t thought about doing the set of Dailies in Quel’Danis, you should. 100-150 gold for an hours work (once your routine is down) plus whatever stuff drops.

For You Druids, The Poison Quest Walkthrough

For those of you starting a Druid, your class has several rather long and involved quest chains to obtain certain powers. At about level 14 you can do the five-quest chain to obtain the cure poison spell. Some detailed information, maps and screenshots are always nice to see before embarking on these quests.

To assist you in your quest for the cure poison spell we’ve put together a detailed walk through for the Druid’s Power over Poison quest chain: one for Alliance and one for the Horde.

  1. Alliance Druid – Power over Poison Quest Chain
  2. Horde Druid – Power over Poison Quest Chain

Let us know if you find these guides helpful. We’ll be coming up with more soon.

You might also be interested in the guides we made for the Druid Bear form quest chain and the Alliance Druid Sea Lion form and Horde Druid Sea Lion form quest chain.

Zygor’s Leveling Guide, the Short Review

Leveling, Reviews  Comments Off on Zygor’s Leveling Guide, the Short Review

I’ll post a longer one, presently. (edit 6/12: The longer guide review is here.)

Zygor’s Leveling Guide is one of the newest of the leveling guides and I think it kicks the iDemise guide in the butt. Both of these are in-game guides, but while the iDemise guide is attached to your main map (and it ain’t at all bad) the Zygor guide is present on your main screen at all times.

It’s an addon, so installation is simple. You dump it into your addons folder and it’ll load automatically. If your character is new just start from step 1, otherwise scroll through the guide till you find the right place for your level and go from there.

I ran an Undead Warrior up to 12 and a Blood Elf Paladin up to 16 using the guide and had no issues and never had to consult the quest log.

Here’s a screenshot of the minimalized guide

  • Note the waypoint arrow at the top of the screen. It also lists the current quest, special things to look out for, and the distance to go to reach the objective.
  • Note the bright dot on the mini-map, marking the goal. There’s also one on the big map.
  • The quest box appears on the main screen at all times, but you can get rid of it by clicking the X at the top right corner. Bring it back by hitting the ZY button on your mini-map (in the 8:00 position in this screenshot)
  • Level and quest objectives are also tracked.

Here’s another screenshot showing the full guide.

  • Note the dot on the mini-map and the waypoint at the top of the screen.
  • Also note the expanded guide showing the quest list. Quests that have been finished are greyed out, while the current quest is highlighted.
  • Sometimes the guide will not update the current quest. If that happens just click the next one and it’ll pick with up from there.
  • The guide also keeps track of your level and your exect stop in the guide. If you log out (you do log out sometimes, don’t you?) the guide will remember your position and start up from that point when you come back. Try that with a PDF or the iDemise guide.

Class quests are not included. You’ll have to grab those on your own, they’re not part of the guide. But then again, Joana’s Guide only had the Hunter quests and the iDemise guide has none, either.

Where to go next is also detailed. New to a zone and not sure where to go to get to the next one? Zygor’s will show you the way.

Notes: I didn’t have to look at the quest logs at all. No trips to Thottbot or any of the other WoW sites and I hardly looked at the big map, except to keep an eye on my location.

How much time do you think you’ll save on your blast to 70 by not having to consult your quest logs, thottbot, the main map, or having to set your own waypoints?

The perfect guide? Well, for that it would have to include the class quests. It would also have to remind you to grab flypoints, repair your gear, go to the bathroom, get something to eat …

So check it out here

This is interesting because I’m not the fastest leveler in the world. I got my Rogue to 70 in just over 15 days time (using Joana’s Guide,) which is Ok, but it’s not breaking any records.

So here are a few things which slow me down, besides lack of experience, and what do do instead. This assumes that you’re leveling solo:

  • Skip the looting. On my way to 70 I looted everything and skinned everything skinable. You get the loots, but it does slow one down. If you don’t need the loot or skins then skip the looting. Just kill and move to the next. Youi’ll save a lot of time over those 70 levels.
  • Skip the gathering and gold grinding. For the same reasons. On your blast to 70 you might want to be as ruthlessly efficient as possible. Besides, if you follow the gold blueprint you won’t really need to gather.
  • Skip the PvP. If you’re on a PvP server just put up with the ganking you’ll get and move on.
  • Keep yourself in decent gear. By decent I’m talking about gear for leveling, not raids or PvP. Green gear will do you fine. Upgrade it every 10 levels or so.
  • Let your mule do the buying. You should have an Auction House Mule. This is a low level character that will live at the AH 100% of the time. This character will do all of your buying and selling. Your mule buys the gear, then mails it to your main character. You’ll save plenty of time doing it this way. Your main should never visit the AH.
  • Never visit the Vendors, except to resupply, repair, and sell your grey stuff. Everything halfway decent gets shipped to your mule.
  • Get a Guide: I used Joana’s Guide for my Rogue, but I think Zygor’s Guide will get you there faster, not because the path is necessarily better, but because the guide in 100% in-game and visible on screen at all times and waypoints are set automatically. You’ll never have to switch to your main map or a pdf again. It also remembers where you were when you log out.
  • Log out in an Inn. Get that rest XP. Most of us have to log out sometime, might as well do it at the inn.
  • Never go AFK: If you want a fast /played time you don’t want to have your character sitting around doing nothing. Besides, if you’re on a PvP server you’re likely to come back to the computer to find your character is dead. Log out if you’re going to be afk for more than a few seconds.
  • Hunters are faster, but Rogues do it from behind. A hunter will have far fewer repairs (never engaing in melee) and somewhat less need to keep his gear up to date, given a decent pet. This is why Joana and Brian used hunters for their speed leveling. If you find other classes to be more fun then by all means use them. Zygor’s guide is not class specific.
  • Spec yourself for leveling: assign your talents to allow faster leveling. Some talents are great for raids and/or PvP, other are better for faster PvE. You can always respec later, it’s easy and cheap the first couple of times.
  • Group your quests: Pick up a bunch of quests at a time. You’ll find that you can do two or three or four in one small area. Do all those at the same time. This is one reason that guides are so nice. All the quests are grouped, useless ones are dumped, and you do a lot less traveling.
  • Questing is better than Grinding: You’ll level twice as fast by questing. ’nuff said.

The idea here is to be ruthlessly efficient. Dump anything that slows down your “get quest and finish quest” time. If you can do a quest without reading the quest description then don’t read it.

A full review of Zygor’s Guide is coming soon. It looks to me like it’ll be the fastest leveling thing out there, partly because it’s an efficient path, but mostly because it’s all right there on your main screen. Check it out here.

Massive WoW Gold Blueprint Launch is Coming to a Close

If you are considering the Massive WoW Gold Blueprint then you should think about getting it now. On the 2nd of June three things will happen:

  1. The price goes up by $30
  2. The Invite to Gold Speed Run 2 goes away. That run should be starting in a couple of days. You also won’t get the detailed logs from Gold Speed Run 1.
  3. The access to the four Q&A calls goes away

It’ll still be a very worthwhile package to pick up, as it completely blows away everythng else out there, but if you grab it now then you get the discount and the extra goodies.

Most of the other guides are PDFs, which is fine, and one of those PDFs is mostly screenshots, which isn’t. The Blueprint is a series of videos which walk you through every step of setting up your gold machine.

Consisting of four modules, each covering a week, the blueprint will teach you everything you need, regardless of whether you’ve been playing WoW since beta, like my boys, or started yesterday. For example, week 1 consists of 21 videos, including three videos for installing and managing addons (you’ll find these addons make the gold game much easier.)

If you’ve looked at the videos in the previous posts then you know the quality of the videos in the guide. They’re similar, but longer and go into more detail and there’s a lot more of them.

I’ve always enjoyed the gold game and have managed to obtain quite a bit on my WoW characters and those of other MMOs that I’ve played. I’m going through this blueprint and am taking notes, because I think it’s going to make the gold game much easier and faster to play.

I think that if you follow this guide then by the time you get to 70 you’ll be buying that Epic Flying Mount (costs 6k with the training) out of petty cash. You’ll have lots left over to put these expensive enchants on your epic weapons, too. I know, the enchants are cheap, it’s the materials that are expensive.

So click through here and you’ll see what it’s all about. Then look through the previous posts to see some of the sample videos.

edit 6/1/08: I emailed Jon and I need to correct something. The fast action bonuses are going away on Monday the 2nd, probably in the evening. The price will increase, but it might not happen on Monday. So if you want access to speed runs 1 & 2, act before Mon eve. If you want the discount, you might have a few extra days. I don’t know exactly when the price will increase, but it will happen. Probably no more than a week from now.

Massive WoW Gold Blueprint, Live at Noon (PST)

Hey all,

Let’s make some gold!

The Massive WoW Godl Blueprint, by Jon Kinens, goes live at Noon (Pacific Time) today and the Launche Period will last till the end of the day on June 1. After that  you’ll still be able to grab it, but here are three reasons not to wait:

  1. The price goes up by $30 on the 2nd.
  2. You will no longer have access to Gold Speed Run 2, or the logs from the 1st Gold Speed Run. By the way – the speed run is this: 30 days to 1000 gold (or more) with brand new characters. You get step by step detail for both.
  3. You will no longer be able to access the four live Q&A sessions that Jon will be having with the early buyers.
  4. Here’s the link, but it’s not live till noon (PST) Massive WoW Gold Blueprint

So if you wait you’ll lose out on some goodies.

Here are some FAQs about the Blueprint that Jon sent along:

  1. Is this yet another PDF e-book to download, or what?

Answer: No! The Blueprint is a set of videos with detailed step-by-step instructions. You simply watch the videos, then do what I tell you (lol). There are more than 80 videos altogether, a little over 14 hours of entertainment, thrills (ahem), and yes… hard-hitting, surefire, Gold-making information.

I’ve deliberately made The Massive Gold Blueprint completely different than all the other gold guides on the market, because it’s obvious that for many of you, the other gold guides *don’t work*!

  2. Can I download the videos to my own computer? Yes. But bear in mind that these are extremely high quality videos and the files are huge, several gigabytes in all. I expect most Members will watch online, and I’ve set up a high-performance video streaming system (hosted by Amazon.com) to make sure you get fast loading, glitch-free viewing.Downloads are available in Quicktime video format (MOV files), and I’m also giving you MP3 audio files of everything, so you can listen on the move, take notes at work (hehe) etc.
  3. Do I need a Level 70 to make this work?Absolutely not. One of the cool things about the Blueprint Method is that it works without any outside help at all. In other words, you can follow the plan starting out from scratch on a new server, or even if you are just starting to play WoW. No previous experience required  🙂
  4. Is this method only useful for lowbies and noobs? Again… absolutely not. I realize this may be hard to appreciate and accept until you see the thing in action, but the fact is that even for top endgame veterans with multiple 70’s, my Blueprint method is hands down the fastest way to make Gold in the game.I’m one of those end-gamer vets myself, I have seven Level 70’s on 3 servers, and I NEVER farm or grind or do dailies for Gold anymore, it’s basically just a waste of time. Instead I spend 1 – 2 hours a day using the Blueprint technique, not even using my main  characters, and I make enough Gold every week to keep all my “big guys” happy… and then some.
  5. What’s this I hear about another Gold Speed Run?You’ve probably seen my videos about the Gold Speed Run I did a couple of months ago on a brand new server. Well, I’m doing it again, this time as a “Fast Action” bonus for owners of The Massive Gold Blueprint.Basically, I’m starting the challenge again from scratch, beginning next Tuesday (June 2). I’m going to do it on a server that YOU GUYS get to pick, and I’m even going to give all the Gold I make to one of the Speed Run II participants.PLUS – I’m doing all-new videos while I’m on the new Speed Run challenge. If you get in on this bonus, you’ll  be getting at least 6 hours more of fresh video and audio updates as the 30-day Run continues… posted to a special private area within the membership, just for Fast Action winners.

So there you have it. I really hope you’ll get the jump on the crowd, and catch the early bonuses – if you get into the Gold Speed Run II challenge, you get to race Jon and everyone else (and me) to 1,000 Gold… it’s going to be a blast!

Arathi Basin, Why Not Win?

PvP  Comments Off on Arathi Basin, Why Not Win?
May 262008

I really don’t quite get it. [tag-tec]Arathi Basin[/tag-tec] Weekend is coming to a close and while I like the [tag-ice]battlegrounds[/tag-ice], some of the players are… annoying.

Why would anyone want to lose? A win doesn’t take much more time and you get the three marks, instead of one, and about 50% more honor. Now admittedly, my best use is probably to imitate a log and let people trip over me, but if you don’t play to win it doesn’t matter what your gear/skill level is.

So for 22 ABs over the weekend (playing Horde on Bloodscalp:)

  • 8 wins, 24 marks, average honor = 343 (Plus 419 honor from the daily AB quest)
  • 14 losses, 14 marks, 218 average honor

Seems to me that if you go in wanting to lose and working to lose you’ll send more time getting your marks and honor than by working to win.

How to lose AB (Applies to AV and WG, too):

  • Attack all five bases, preferably at the same time
  • Fight on the road, where possible, far from a flag.
  • Let the opposing player pull/kite you off the flag while the Rogue ninjas the flag (or backstabs you while the other Rogue ninjas the flag.)
  • Don’t communicate. See attackers coming to your base? Don’t say anything!
  • Sit down and don’t participate. (AFK playng)

How to Win AB:

  • Everyone follows the game plan, don’t wander off and do your own thing.
  • Grab your closest base and keep it.
  • Grab the next two closest bases and keep them.
  • I think it’s best to get three bases in a triangle, for example: Farm, MIll, Blacksmith. That way It’s easier for each base to support the others. Alliance, of course, should do stables and farm (wink.) Stables, Smith, Mill. I like the mill more than the mine for the view advantage.
  • Defend your bases. Don’t grab a flag, cap it, and then leave. Even if just one person stays then that one person can call out enemy assaults.
  • Communicate. Call out the incoming enemy and their numbers. Rogues can spy on bases and call out defending forces.
  • Coordinate. Agree to assault one or two bases at one time, rather than five.
  • It helps a lot if you want to win.

Of course, if the other side is fielding a well-geared, skilled pre-made, the winning is going to be rough. But then, why can’t that pre-made be on your side?

If the other side is all on the same Vent channel and no one on your side has heard of Ventrilo and none of them can type, then it’s going to be hard to win. 🙂

The Massive WoW Gold Blueprint Goes Live Tuesday

Get the Gold  Comments Off on The Massive WoW Gold Blueprint Goes Live Tuesday
May 262008

The Massive WoW Gold Blueprint is scheduled to launch at 12 noon (PST) on Tuesday, the 27th. If you need to convert that to your time, anywhere in the world, then go here.

What you need to do if you want to get in on the launch is click through and join the notification list. That way you’ll get notice as soon as this puppy goes live. While you’re at it, watch the videos (links below.)

Why hop on the launch as early as possible?

  1. You’ll get started building your gold stash before those who don’t
  2. You’ll get a pile of bonuses for buying early, including
    • Access to all the info for the Gold Speed Run 2 – this is where Jon builds new characters on a new server and earns at least 1000 gold in 30 days. No 70s to help out, no generous guilds, no sugar daddies.
    • Four Q&A sessions, only available to people who buy in early, where Jon will answer any and all questions about WoW gold and the Blueprint.
    • The logbook from Gold Speed Run #1 – with all the details on how he already did the speed run… what he bought, where he went, how he did it.
    • And there’s more
  3. You’ll save $30 over the final price. Yep, he’s going to increase the price after June 1.

So what’s in this thing? This Massive WoW Gold Blueprint?
For starters, it’s a series of modules designed to teach you how to set up your gold creation network of characters. The blueprint will walk you step by step, with videos and PDFs, through every step of setting up your gold machine.

He does recommend doing this on a non-PvP server, for the simple reason that you can have characters on both sides, Alliance and Horde. This makes it easier to do cross-faction buying and selling. If you’re on a PvP server, like all of my characters, then you can still work the blueprint, but you won’t be doing the cross-faction work unless you have two accounts.

In addition, everything is accessible to the brand new WoW player. Don’t know Stormwind from a hole in the ground? He’ll tell you everything you need to cash in on Stormwind, including how to get there from the starting area. (All the experienced Ally players now groan…)

Instead of giving advice like. “Use Auctioneer to play the Auction House…” he’ll give you a set of videos which will show you exactly, step by step, how to do that.

Never had more than a few gold to your character’s name? The Gold Blueprint will fix that. Brand new to the game and don’t know where to go? The Blueprint is for you.

No matter what level you are you’ll learn a path to getting all the gold that your characters will be able to use. The speed runs were all started with level 1 characters.

So check it out and get all the gold your characters will ever need.
